Local Landscape and Public Artist, Walter Hood, Awarded the MacArthur Foundation ‘Genius’ Grant

Congratulations to client, Walter Hood, the Creative Director and Founder of Hood Design Studio in Oakland, on his well-deserved recognition as one of the 26 MacArthur ‘genius’ grant recipients.

According to the MacArthur Foundation, Hood won for “creating ecologically sustainable urban spaces that resonate with and enrich the lives of current residents while also honoring communal histories.”

His works can be seen throughout the Bay and across the U.S. from Splash Pad Park, the gathering place for the weekend Farmer’s Market near Oakland’s Lake Merritt to Crosstown Concourse, a mixed-use space integrating community, art, and culture, in Memphis, Tennessee. Hood continues to transform urban spaces with his upcoming projects such as the renovation at the Oakland Museum of California and a new park atop Yerba Buena Island.

Once again, congratulations, Walter Hood on the MacArthur Foundation grant and we look forward to seeing your works enhancing communities through the intersection of art, design, landscape, research, and urbanism.
