ABA’s 48th Forum on Franchising

Dawn Newton, franchise and distribution law specialist, will be co-presenting a program called “Is There an App for that? Cybersecurity in Mobile Apps” at the ABA’s 48th Annual Forum on Franchising on October 16 and October 17, 2025.

From fitness to fast food to real estate, virtually every franchise system relies on mobile apps and web-based customer portals. Managing cybersecurity in apps and portals involves implementing robust security measures, data minimization, and thorough testing to protect against unauthorized access. This workshop will discuss the risks and liabilities of cybersecurity breaches in apps and portals, insurance coverage issues, and best practices for developing and implementing guidelines and strategies to minimize the chance that franchisees and their customers fall victim to a cyber-attack, as well as best practices for responding if one occurs.
